🔼 Virginia Announces “UVA Strong” Game Plans. Virginia athletics has announced details for the “UVA Strong” football game vs. James Madison on Saturday, Sept. 9 at noon at Scott Stadium.

Details include a pregame ceremony for team members Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry, who were shot and killed after returning to Grounds from a class field trip last November.

The Hoos came out firing, with three goals in the first 12 minutes of action — Meredith McDermott scored a minute in, Maggie Cagle followed in the fourth minute and Talia Staude made it 3-0 in the 12th minute.

Allie Ross added another goal in the 32nd minute for good measure.

🔼 Ranked Win. Virginia and Maryland men’s soccer got started quickly on Monday evening, with three goals in the first 20 minutes of the contest.

Two of those goals belonged to the Hoos, who picked up a 2-1 win over the No. 20 Terps.

Leo Afonso scored in the 12th minute, followed by a Maryland goal less than a minute later. Mouhameth Thiam broke the tie in the 17th minute, which served as the game winner.

🔼 Coming Home Happy. Virginia volleyball went 2-0 at the Big Apple Tournament over the weekend.

The Hoos took down Quinnipiac on Friday, 3-1. Three players reached double-digit kills and Ashley Le tied a career high with 46 assists.

Virginia won a five-set thriller against Columbia, with Lauryn Bowie collecting 20 kills — the most for a first-year Hoo since 2017.

🔼 Philly Sweep. No. 6 Virginia field hockey picked up a pair of wins against No. 11 Saint Joseph’s and Temple over the weekend.

🔼 Winner, Winner. Both Virginia men’s and women’s cross country won team titles at the Spider Alumni Open in Richmond over the weekend, and also claimed individual titles to go along with it.

Yasin Sado out-kicked the competition to win the men’s 6K race in 17:59.3. Caroline Timm won the women’s 4K race in 13:29.5.
