🔼 Top-20 Takedown. No. 3 Virginia field hockey got off to a hot start over the weekend, beating No. 16 Penn State in College Park in its 2024 season opener.
Sloan Davidson got the scoring started within the first five minutes, and after the Nittany Lions tied the game, Caroline Nemec secured the game-winner to give Ole Keusgen his first win as the Hoos’ head coach.
🔼 Get The Brooms Out. Virginia volleyball got off to the best start it could imagine on opening weekend, picking three sweeps against Marist, William & Mary and Old Dominion at the Quest for the Crown in Norfolk.
This is the first time since 2014 the Hoos have started the season 3-0, winning their first six matches that year.

🔼 Fast & First. Virginia cross country began its season at the Spider Alumni Open in Richmond on Saturday, and both the men’s and women’s squads picked up wins.
The Hoos also had a pair of individual winners — Justin Wachtel in the men’s 6K race and Gillian Bushee in the women’s 4K.
🔼 Defense Dominates (Again). No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer won via shutout again on Sunday, beating James Madison 3-0 in Harrisonburg.
Maggie Cagle got the scoring started in the 10th minute, and the Hoos followed up with goals from Ella Carter (41’) and Kiki Maki (83’).
The Hoos are now 5-0 on the year, with four shutout victories.
⚽️ RECAP: No. 7 Virginia Takes 3-0 Victory At JMU
🔼 All Square. Virginia men’s soccer battled with Maryland on Monday in College Park, earning a 1-1 draw.
The Hoos scored first thanks to a penalty kick goal from Nick Dang in the 10th minute, but the Terrapins earned the equalizer in the 42nd and the teams remained level from there.
🔼 Making A Run. Virginia women’s tennis alum Emma Navarro is into the quarterfinals at the US Open in Flushing Meadows!
Navarro took down defending champ and fellow American Coco Gauff to earn her spot in the quarterfinals, and will take on Paula Badosa of Spain for a spot in the semifinals today.
