🔼 Still Perfect. No. 3 Virginia field hockey remained undefeated through its two weekend matches, taking down No. 9 Duke on Friday and William & Mary on Sunday.

Mia Abello scored the lone goal of the game in the 1-0 win over the Blue Devils, more than five minutes into the fourth quarter. Abello scored once more in the 4-1 win against the Tribe on Sunday, along with Taryn Tkachuk, Amelie Rees and Lilly Hengerer.

🔼 Moving Forward. Virginia volleyball picked up a victory in its ACC opener over the weekend, winning in five sets at Wake Forest on Friday before dropping a match at NC State on Sunday in four sets.

The Hoos dropped the first two sets against the Demon Deacons on Friday before winning the final three, pushing their record at the time to 11-1.

🔼 Good Run. Both Virginia men’s and women’s cross country raced to 11th-place finishes at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. over the weekend among a stacked 25-team field.

Jenny Schilling earned herself a top-20 finish in the women’s 6K race, while Will Anthony and Gary Martin did the same in the men’s 8K.

🔼 First Of Many. Virginia men’s soccer fell to No. 2 Stanford, 1-0, on Friday in the first meeting of the two programs as members of the ACC.

The Hoos were forced to defend for much of the first half and did so well, with the match knotted at 0-0 until the Cardinal broke through with a goal in the 74th minute to earn the win.

Virginia is back in action today, hosting UNCG at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. The Spartans are 3-1-3 so far this season.

🔼 Back And Forth. No. 19 Virginia women’s soccer exchanged goals with No. 4 North Carolina in the first half of its match on Friday, but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.

Maggie Cagle scored the first goal of the match via penalty kick in the 18th minute, and Yuna McCormack gave the Hoos another lead at 2-1 with her goal in the 35th minute. Two unanswered goals from North Carolina, one in the 38th minute and the last in the 74th, were the difference.

🔼 Splash Zone. Virginia men’s and women’s swimming opened their fall schedules with an intrasquad meet over the weekend that also featured the men’s and women’s teams from Navy.

The Hoos’ first traditional meet of the 2024-25 season will be on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they welcome Florida to Charlottesville.
