🔼 Big First Win. Two second half goals were the difference in No. 6 Virginia field hockey’s 2-1 season-opening win over No. 5 Penn State.
The Hoos dominated the first quarter as well, taking three shots on goal while holding Penn State to zero shots.
Laura Janssen and Minnie Pollock finally broke through for Virginia in the second half, scoring goals that ended up being the difference.
🔼 Another Big Win. We could really get used to all these big Virginia women’s soccer victories!
The latest was a 4-0 win over George Mason on Sunday evening. Maggie Cagle scored twice for the Hoos, including five minutes into the contest, while Talia Staude and Allie Ross both also contributed goals.
Next up for the Hoos is a matchup with West Virginia on Thursday.
🔼 Not The Hoos’ Night. Virginia men’s soccer dropped a 3-1 matchup to Loyola Marymount on Sunday evening.
LMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead before a Leo Afonso penalty kick goal cut the deficit in half for the Hoos. Another goal from the Lions in the 84th minute put the match out of reach, however.
Virginia is back on the pitch this Thursday against George Mason.
🔼 Split To Start. Virginia volleyball took care of Rider in straight sets on Friday, with the Broncs never scoring more than 20 points in any of the three sets.
Ashley Le posted a double-double for the Hoos with a game-leading 26 assists and 14 digs.
Le was incredible yet again against Rutgers on Saturday, but the Hoos couldn’t quite clip the Scarlet Knights, losing in five sets. Le led all players in assists (46) and digs (24) in the contest.
