🔼 Ready To Contribute. Virginia defensive end Ben Smiley III was the first person in his family to earn a college degree, a bachelor’s in American studies this spring from UVA.

Now, Smiley is eager to distinguish himself on the football field for the Hoos.

🔼 Winner, Winner. Virginia women’s soccer picked up a win in its season opener against Nevada on Thursday, scoring often in a 5-0 victory.

Allie Ross, making her collegiate debut, and Meredith McDermott both scored twice for the Hoos.

🔼 Championship Feeling. Virginia women’s basketball alum Jocelyn Willoughby is a 2023 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup champion!

The Commissioner’s Cup goes to the winner of an annual in-season competition in the WNBA, with designated games throughout the season going toward Cup standings.

🔼 Still Alive. Ben James is through to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Championship after a win over Zach Kingsland in the Round of 32 and David Ford in the Round of 16.

Paul Chang picked up a victory after 22 holes in the Round of 32 over Caleb Surratt, sinking this long birdie putt on 18 to extend his match. His Round of 16 match against John Marshall was suspended after the two were tied through 18 holes, but not before Chang hit the shot of the day on No. 16.

Filling Up The Stat Sheet. Jocelyn Willoughby grabbed 868 rebounds and scored 1,677 points during her Virginia career.
