Hoos Brew 7/25: World Champion Hoo
Today, Kate Douglass is officially the best in the world.
Good morning! We really are getting close to football season!
What’s steeping in today's Brew?
🏑 Croon is one-of-one
🏊♀️ Douglass is a world champion
⚔️ And much, much more!

🔼 Croon Stands Alone. Jans Croon is very much Dutch. She’s also very much American. That’s what makes her so unique.
She was born in the Netherlands and lived there until she was 13, when she moved to Los Angeles for what was supposed to be one year. It turned into seven, and now she’s a star on the Virginia field hockey team.
🔼 Red, White & Hoo. We spot a former Virginia men’s basketball star on the 2023 USA Men’s National Select Team!
Congratulations to Trey Murphy on making the 11-man roster, which will practice with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team from Aug. 3-6 in Las Vegas.
🔼 World Champion! Take a bow (cannonball?), Kate Douglass!
Virginia swimmers occupied the top two spots in the race, with Alex Walsh finishing in second place with a time of 2:07.97.
Congrats to both Kate and Alex!
🔼 One Down, More To Come. Virginia women’s golf alum Elizabeth Szokol and partner Cheyenne Knight shot a 5-under 65 in the final round of the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational over the weekend, winning the tournament at 23-under par.
The win was Szokol’s first on the LPGA Tour!
Congrats, Elizabeth!
🔼 Big Man In The Middle. Football games are won in the trenches, they say, so boy are we glad honorable mention All-ACC defensive tackle Aaron Faumui is back for his sixth year as a Hoo.
The Honolulu, Hawaii native had four sacks last year, third on the team, and recorded 8.5 tackles for loss, the most of any Hoo defender. In total, he racked up 39 tackles on the year.
39 more days until Virginia football!
🤔 HOOS TRIVIA
Behind The Line Of Scrimmage. We mentioned above that Aaron Faumui led the Hoos in tackles for loss last year.
