🔼 Coach Pollard Introduces Himself. Chris Pollard’s message resonated with his audience at Disharoon Park on Wednesday afternoon, and that wasn’t surprising. Pollard’s values and principles differ little from those of Brian O’Connor, his predecessor as head baseball coach at the University of Virginia.

Among those who attended Pollard’s introductory press conference was Luke Hanson, a rising senior who started at third base for UVA this season.

“I think the way that he operates and just kind of preaches toughness and building a culture and the attention to detail, I think it’s going to be an easy transition, especially for returners, just because that’s what we’re all about here,” Hanson said. “I think Virginia comes down to the nitty-gritty details, and that’s why it’s been a successful program and will continue to be with Coach Pollard.”

🔼 Summer Hoops. Twelve weeks after he was hired as head men’s basketball coach at the University of Virginia, Ryan Odom finally got to take the court with his new team. The start of the 2025-26 season remains months away, but the Cavaliers’ first practice was still an occasion to savor for Odom and his staffers, most of whom followed him from VCU to UVA in March.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Odom said Tuesday afternoon at John Paul Jones Arena.

🔼 Resume Boost. Virginia softball’s Jade Hylton added another honor this week, earning Academic All-American status from the College Sports Communicators.

🔼 Locked In. Virginia volleyball has announced its 2025 schedule, which includes 14 home matches and 10 against teams that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament!

🔼 Important Piece. We only have 72 more days until Virginia football is back on the field for its 2025 season opener at Scott Stadium against Coastal Carolina!

Ray Roberts wore No. 72 for the Hoos from 1988-91, earning a pair of Jacobs Blocking Trophies during that time, two First Team All-ACC nods and a First Team All-American honor in 1991.
