📈 STOCK UP

🔼 15 Big Ones. Second-seeded Virginia baseball opened up the ACC Tournament in style, picking up a 15-1, run-rule victory over 11-seed Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

Ethan O’Donnell, Casey Saucke and freshly-minted ACC Player of the Year Kyle Teel all collected three hits, and Teel was a triple away from the cycle. The trio combined for seven RBI.

The Hoos got a phenomenal and important start from Nick Parker, who because of the run-rule victory, tossed a seven-inning complete game, conserving arms for a possible deep run in the tournament.

🔼 On Your Heels. The Hoos are back on the diamond today, taking on 7-seed North Carolina to finish up Pool B play, with the winner advancing to the semifinals against the winner of Pool C.

The Tar Heels and Hoos played early this season, but haven’t seen each other for over two months. Virginia took two-of-three from UNC back in early March, outscoring the Heels 15-7 over the first two games before dropping the finale 6-0.

UNC knocked off Georgia Tech 11-5 in its first game of the ACC Tournament, getting three RBI from Patrick Alvarez and two each from Jackson Van De Brake and Tomas Frick.

🔼 Hoos Go International. Virginia soccer stars Maggie Cagle and Jill Flammia are going to miss the team’s trip to Europe this spring. Don’t worry though, they have a good excuse.

Cagle and Flammia will be competing in the Dominican Republic, representing the United States at the Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship.

The opportunity to play for the national team was just too good to pass up.

🔼 Moving On. The NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary meet is underway, with several Virginia athletes competing Wednesday.

Wes Porter (men’s 1,500m) and Conor Murphy (men’s 800m) both advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective events, which will be held Friday.

Iñaki Montes and Ryan Goetz had their doubles season end, losing to Stanford is three sets. The pair were named All-Americans thanks to their 5-8 seeding.

On the women’s side, Julia Adams and Mélodie Collard won in straight sets thanks to a pair of tiebreaker victories. They will face a doubles pairing from either Old Dominion or Illinois in the quarterfinals.
