Hoos Brew 5/12: NCAA O'Clock

Today, we're looking at four different NCAA Tournament matchups.

Good morning! “Not one, not two, not three…” - LeBron James at his Miami Heat introductory press conference, describing how many ACC titles Virginia’s Ethan Dabbs has in the javelin.

Dabbs just won the men’s javelin at the ACC Championships for the fourth year in a row!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Devils Come Up To Virginia. It’s an ACC showdown in Charlottesville this weekend, as Duke men’s tennis comes to town to take on the Hoos in the NCAA Super Regional on Saturday at 1:00pm ET.

No. 5 seed Virginia has a pair of 4-0 wins over Navy and Ole Miss in the tournament so far, while Duke has handled UNCW (4-2) and Cornell (4-1). The Hoos and Blue Devils have matched up twice this season, with UVA taking a decisive 7-0 victory in the regular season and 4-1 win in the ACC Championships title match.

🔼 Stomp The Spiders. No. 2 seed Virginia men’s lacrosse opens up NCAA Tournament action this Saturday as it hosts Richmond at Klöckner Stadium at noon ET.

The Hoos are making their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and are a top-two seed for the first time since 2010. The matchup against Richmond is a rematch from earlier this season, UVA winning that one 25-8.

🔼 Happy (Ann) Arbor Day. For the third consecutive year, UVA women’s tennis is serving it up in the NCAA Round of 16, taking on No. 5 Michigan in Ann Arbor this Saturday.

The Hoos have eased through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, with 4-0 wins over LIU and Princeton in Charlottesville. So too has Michigan, with wins over Youngstown State (4-0) and Notre Dame (4-1).

The Wolverines are 24-3 overall on the year, with a perfect 11-0 mark in Big Ten play.

🔼 Open It Up. Fresh off a program-best six-win conference season, Virginia women’s lacrosse gets a shot at UAlbany this evening in NCAA Tournament opening-round action.

The Hoos are tournament-tested, and then some - this is the 27th consecutive year UVA has played in the NCAA Tournament. On the flip side, this will be the Great Danes’ first appearance in the tournament since 2017.

The winner of the UVA-UAlbany matchup will take on the winner of Denver-USC on Sunday.

🔼 Critical Home Stretch. Virginia has two weekends left in the regular season. They are very important.

With hopes of hosting an NCAA Regional and an RPI that gives them a shot at that (13), the Hoos host a solid Louisville team this weekend for a crucial three-game series.

The Cardinals are 9-15 in ACC play, and were swept at Clemson last weekend.
