Hoos Brew 5/20: Game Day In Charlotte!

Baseball plays Duke today in the ACC Championships!

What else do we have brewing this morning?

⚾ Tournament time
⛳ Two rounds down
⚔️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Tournament Time! No. 8 seed Virginia baseball begins play at the ACC Championships in Charlotte, N.C., today, taking on No. 16 seed Duke at 9 a.m. in a second round matchup at Truist Field!

The Blue Devils beat No. 9 seed NC State in a high-scoring first-round matchup, 21-12, to advance to today’s second round.

🔼  History For The Hoos! Virginia men’s golfer Ben James shot an NCAA Tournament program record 8-under on Tuesday at the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional and will enter Wednesday’s final round with a three-shot lead on the individual leaderboard!

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers as a team topped their historic opening round performance by one stroke with a 14-under, 270. Virginia stands in first place after 36 holes and six strokes ahead of second-place Pepperdine. Virginia’s second round score of 270 was tied for the second lowest at an NCAA Regional in program history.

🔼  Seventh Heaven! At the University of Virginia, the race is on for No. 8.

In all, teams representing UVA Athletics have captured 37 NCAA titles. Three of those programs—men’s lacrosse, men’s tennis and men’s soccer—have won seven championships apiece. (Women’s swimming has won six NCAA titles.)

With the 2026-27 school year will come an opportunity for each of those programs to secure an eighth crown. Don’t bet against men’s tennis, which is expected to return most of its lineup next season.

“We are 100% going to go for it next year,” Stiles Brockett said Tuesday afternoon at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort.

🔼  Back In The Boat! No. 6 Virginia rowing is headed to the 2026 NCAA Rowing Championships after earning an at-large bid on Tuesday!

The national regatta will be held May 29-31 at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Ga.

🔼  Welcome Aboard! Virginia swimming and diving head coach Todd DeSorbo has announced the hiring of Reed Fujan as an associate head coach!

Fujan was an associate head coach at Louisville for the past three years after serving in the same role at Alabama for three years.

For the first time ever: Virginia Cavaliers football heads to Rio de Janeiro. And so can you! On August 29, 2026, Virginia takes on NC State Wolfpack football at Nilton Santos Stadium in the FIRST-EVER FBS college football game played in South America.
