Hoos Brew 5/15: Hoos vs. Hokies

Baseball finishes the regular season at Virginia Tech this weekend!

Good Morning, Hoos! Former Virginia offensive lineman Ryan Nelson has one of the coolest jobs out there — read about his motion-capture role at EA Sports here!

What else do we have brewing this morning?

⛳️ NCAA Championships next
👟 ACC race day
⚔️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Last Call. Virginia baseball closes out its regular season this weekend, traveling to Blacksburg for a three-game series at Virginia Tech beginning today at 6 p.m.

Heading into the final weekend of conference action, the Hoos are currently sixth in the ACC standings at 14-10. The Hokies are 11-16 in ACC play.

🔼 Ticket Punched. Virginia men’s golf is headed to the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row!

The Hoos carded a final round score of 9-under on Wednesday at the NCAA Reno Regional, the lowest score of the day, to finish second behind BYU at 11-under. Paul Chang earned medalist honors, shooting 10-under to win by three strokes.

🔼 High Stakes. The postseason has arrived for Virginia track and field, which is in Winston-Salem, N.C., this weekend for the ACC Outdoor Championships.

Expanded coverage of the ACC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be streamed live each day via ACC Network Extra as follows: Thursday starting at 12:45 p.m., Friday starting at 12:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturday starting at 2 p.m. until the championship’s conclusion.

🔼 Tune In. A cognitive science major, Kelly Ayer is graduating this weekend, but she won't be at Final Exercises on Grounds. She'll be in Columbia, S.C., for an NCAA softball regional. Ayer starts in center field for UVA, which is seeded No. 2 in the Columbia regional.

🔼 Doing It All. The goal for a graduating University of Virginia softball player is to be busy during Final Exercises; to be running basepaths while others are walking the Lawn; to be wearing a visor and jersey rather than a cap and gown.

This weekend, some 360 miles from the pomp and circumstance within Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village, Eden Bigham and Jade Hylton will celebrate their rare achievement – graduating from UVA in three years – in their preferred style – leading the Cavalier softball team in the NCAA Tournament.

🔼 All-American Status. Virginia men’s lacrosse long-stick midfielder Ben Wayer has been named a Nike Lacrosse Media All-America honorable mention by Inside Lacrosse!
