Hoos Brew 4/4: Give Me Liberty

Today, we're taking a moment to appreciate success.

Good morning. What a time to cheer for Virginia spring sports. Sometimes it’s worth it to take a step back and just appreciate all the success on the Grounds right now.

Men’s lacrosse is currently ranked #3, baseball and men’s tennis are at #7, women’s tennis and lacrosse are both #12, women’s golf is #19, and men’s golf is #22 - truly incredible.

What else is steeping in today's Brew?

🔼 Countdown Continues. Twelve more sleeps until we get to watch Virginia football again, but it’s not like we’re counting or anything.

We have a feeling we’ll get a little less sleep each night we get closer to this year’s spring game, which will be held Saturday, April 15 at 2:00pm ET at Scott Stadium.

If you want to look further into the future, there are only 151 days until Virginia travels to Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Vols. But again, it’s not like we’re counting or anything.

🔼 Give Me Liberty. The Hoos get a quick shot at a bounce-back in today’s midweek contest against Liberty.

Despite dropping its weekend series to Virginia Tech over the weekend, Virginia comes into the matchup having won 11 of its last 14 games, and has a huge weekend series against Miami on the horizon after it travels back from Lynchburg.

Liberty sits at 12-15, with a 6-4 home record thus far. Brayden Horton is the one Flame regular who is hitting above .300, with 15 hits in 47 at-bats.

🔼 Women’s Golf Day 1 Update. UVA women’s golf lost a pair of close matches against North Carolina (3-2) and Florida State (3-1-1) at the Wolfpack Match Play on Monday.

Maline Kraus won her match against UNC, 2&1, and Rebecca Skoler scored the other point for the Hoos, a 5&4 win. Against Florida State, Virginia Bossi won her match 3&2 for the only Hoos win.

The Hoos were led yet again by freshman Ben James, who finished fourth at 11-under (205). The fourth place finish for James was the seventh time in nine tournaments this season he has finished in the top-four.

UVA saved its best golf for the final round - an 11-under 277 that brought its 54-hole total to 24-under (840). George Duangmanee went the lowest in the final round with a 5-under 67. Pietro Bovari and Jack Montague both shot 1-under 71.

After an offseason trade sent her from the North Carolina Courage to the Houston Dash, Ordonez scored her first goal of the season over the weekend.

Ordonez scored 45 goals over three years with the Hoos, tied for third all-time at Virginia, and ended her career as an All-American.

🤔 HOOS TRIVIA

Above Average. Through 25 games, UVA’s Kyle Teel is hitting .449. And yeah - that’s among the best in the country at this point in the season.
