Hoos Brew 4/28: No. 1 Comes To Town

Today, we're looking forward to proving who's really the best.

Good morning! Former Hoo Pavin Smith has been one of the best hitters on the planet this year.

Those are spit-your-coffee-out type numbers!

What else are we serving up in today's Brew?

🔼 NFL Honor. The National Football League honored Virginia football players Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and D’Sean Perry during a special ceremony before the start of the NFL Draft Thursday evening.

UVA alums Melissa Stark of the NFL Network and former NFL offensive lineman D’Brickashaw Ferguson, along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, each addressed the crowd of over 100,000 assembled in Kansas City.

Goodell welcomed Davis Jr., Chandler and Perry into the NFL family, and presented jerseys to each of their families.

🔼 No. 1 Comes To Town. No. 3 Virginia men’s lacrosse hosts No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday to close out the regular season, getting another chance to beat the Irish after a 15-10 win back in March.

In that contest Xander Dickson, Connor Shellenberger and Payton Cormier combined for 18 points to give Notre Dame its only loss of the season to this point.

A win against the Fighting Irish combined with Syracuse upsetting Duke this weekend would give the Hoos a share of the ACC regular season title.

🔼 Visit From The Devils. The ACC Coastal lead is up for grabs this weekend at the Dish, as No. 20 Duke rolls into Charlottesville for a three-game series.

The Blue Devils (12-8 in the ACC) are riding a seven-game win streak into the weekend, and hold a half-game lead over the Hoos (12-9 ACC) in the standings.

The Hoos have righted the ship after a tough weekend at Notre Dame, winning a pair of midweek contests against Liberty and Towson.

Syracuse sits at 4-12-1 in ACC play and is 20-22-1 overall, but brings a five-game win streak into the weekend, with sweeps of Lafayette and Cornell preceding the visit from the Hoos.

The three games at Syracuse is Virginia’s final of ACC series of the regular season, with the ACC Championships starting May 10 at Notre Dame.

🔼 Sky Is The Limit. Virginia rower Sky Dahl has received an invite to the PR3 Selection Camp this summer, in hopes of being selected to represent the U.S. at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

Dahl, who races in UVA’s Second Varsity Eight, is attempting to make her first Para National Team.
