Hoos Brew 4/21: Orange Peels

Today, we're reminding people to eat their fruit.

Good morning! Completely theoretical question that has nothing to do with this weekend’s events on Grounds - who would win in a fight: a piece of fruit, say an orange, or a Cavalier?

What else are we serving up in today's Brew?

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Orange Peels. Virginia men’s lacrosse plays its ninth ranked opponent of the season - and sixth straight - when No. 13 Syracuse comes to Charlottesville on Saturday at 2:00pm ET.

The No. 3 Hoos are battle-tested at this point, at 8-3 overall with five wins over those aforementioned ranked squads.

A 6-2 run in the third quarter broke the game open for Virginia. The wealth was spread out, too - all six goals were scored by different players. Rachel Clark led the way with five goals and two assists, and Mackenzie Hoeg grabbed herself a hat trick in the victory.

🔼 Hoos Add Another Transfer. The Hoo men’s basketball crew just keeps getting better - Tony Bennett announced Thursday the addition of guard Andrew Rohde from St. Thomas (Minn.).

Rohde, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged over 17 points per game last year, earning All-Summit League First Team and Freshman of the Year honors in the conference.

🔼 Bird Hunting. Virginia softball hosts Louisville this weekend for a three-game series, yet another test for the Hoos against the top of the ACC standings.

The Cardinals are 27-14 overall, with a 10-4 ACC record that is good enough for fourth place as things currently stand. They have the unenviable task of trying to beat the Hoos at home, however, where they are 19-5 this year.

The Hoos are looking to get back on track in conference play after dropping two-of-three to Pittsburgh last weekend. It does appear they have righted the ship - Sunday’s 8-5 win over Pitt to salvage a game in that series was followed by a 19-6 win over VCU in the midweek.

🤔 HOOS TRIVIA

Ribeyes. Virginia’s Jake Gelof has a knack for driving in runs. He’s already got 67 RBI this year, closing in on his 81 from last year.

Where do his 67 runs driven in rank among Division-I hitters?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: First!

Yup, Gelof leads the entire country in RBI, and judging on his past 10 games or so, he’s starting to heat up even more!

Have a great weekend, y’all.
