Hoos Brew 4/19: Major Addition

Today, Virginia basketball got a lot better.

Good morning! Clear ‘em all, Pavin Smith! The former Hoo just launched his first home run of the season for the Diamondbacks - and his first career grand slam - on a pitch he sat on like he knew what was coming!

What else are we serving up in today's Brew?

🏀 Major addition
⚾️ Big barrels
⚔️ And much, much more!

🔼 Minor Is Major. Virginia men’s basketball just made a major addition to its roster - Merrimack transfer Jordan Minor is coming to Charlottesville.

Minor averaged 17.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.4 steals per game last year at Merrimack, earning Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

🔼 All Anderson, All The Time. The Hoos certainly brought their big barrels with them to VCU on Tuesday, outslugging the Rams to win 19-6.

Ethan Anderson had one of the best nights anyone will ever have at the plate, and if you don’t believe us, just take a look at the damage he did - Anderson went 5-for-6 with two home runs, three doubles, four runs scored, and three RBI.

And now back to your regularly-scheduled programming - Jake Gelof went deep again, and totaled five RBI on the night.

🔼 End Things Early. The Hoos ran away from James Madison in their midweek matchup Tuesday, run-ruling the Dukes 10-2 in six innings.

Abby Weaver broke the game wide open for Virginia in the bottom of the first. With the Hoos already up 1-0, the left fielder launched a three-run bomb to make it 4-0. Tori Gilbert also had a big day at the plate with a pair of hits, runs and RBI.

🔼 Abbott The Artist. In a Cincinnati Reds organization full of big pitchers with big arms who throw in the upper-90s, Virginia alum Andrew Abbott has found a different way to stand out.

Abbott has refined his repertoire, pounds the strike zone with his fastball and has dominated Double A this season because of it - he has struck out 25 of the 36 hitters he has seen so far.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 2015!

The Hoos were ranked No. 3 for the first five weeks of the 2015 season. If you’ll remember, Virginia won a national championship that year. Just sayin’.

Have a great Wednesday, y’all.
