Hoos Brew 4/17: Historic Hoo

Today, we're celebrating an ACC champion.

Good morning! Amanda Sambach went lower than anyone ever has before, which, thankfully in golf, makes you the best to ever do it!

What else are we serving up in today's Brew?

šŸ”¼ Moving Forward Together. For the first time since three football players - Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and Dā€™Sean Perry - were shot and killed on Grounds, Virginia football played in front of fans at Scott Stadium on Saturday.

Saturday was a significant barrier to cross for the team, but also a blessing to play football again. During the scrimmage, Mike Hollins finished with 40 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Quarterbacks Tony Muskett and Anthony Coleandra got most of the snaps - Muskett completed 11-of-14 passes for 149 yards, and Coleandra was 18-for-29 for 218 ayrds.

šŸ”¼ ACC All-Timer. UVA womenā€™s golf finished second at the ACC Championships, its bid for a title falling just short in the championship match against Clemson.

Amanda Sambach became the third individual Virginia golfer to win the ACC Championship, shooting a historic 14-under 202 - the best score in the 35-year history of the championship and best 54-hole score in UVA history. Sambach also picked up the one win for the Hoos in the final against Clemson.

šŸ”¼ Just Short. No. 3 Virginia menā€™s lacrosse outscored No. 2 Duke 10-5 in the second half on Saturday, but it wasnā€™t quite enough in a 15-14 loss to the Blue Devils.

Payton Cormier scored four goals in the game, and Griffin Schutz added a hat trick as well.

The Hoos are back at it on April 22, hosting Syracuse.

šŸ”¼ Trading Blows. Virginia softball played well in its biggest test of the season, taking one of three games against No. 4 Florida State on the road over the weekend.

The Hoos struck first in game one, but the Seminoles used two big innings to win 6-1.

Virginia split the Saturday doubleheader, winning game one 6-5. Eight Hoos collected hits in the game, Shelby Barbee drove in a pair, and Eden Bigham earned the win. The Hoos dropped game two, 8-0.

šŸ”¼ Panther Bit. Virginia baseball grabbed a win against Pittsburgh on Sunday, salvaging the final game of the series after dropping the first two.

Ethan Oā€™Donnell and Kyle Teel both had late RBI knocks on Sunday, a big reason why the Hoos left the weekend with a 8-5 win. Jack Oā€™Connor earned his fourth win of the season, tossing six innings and allowing just three hits.
