Virginia introduces new women's basketball coach today!

Good Morning, Hoos! Virginia will introduce its new head women’s basketball coach, Aaron Roussell, today! There will be a press conference on the women’s basketball practice floor at John Paul Jones Arena at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Fans at home can watch on the ACC Network, and a livestream will be available on VirginiaSports.com.

🔼 Up To Speed. New women’s basketball coach Aaron Roussell was the head coach at Richmond just last week, before Virginia came calling. There wasn’t much that could pry him away from the Spider program, but the UVA job could. His top priorities include player retention, putting together his staff, and continuity.

🔼 Headed Home Happy. No. 13 Virginia baseball won the series at Notre Dame over the weekend! They started the weekend with an 8-4 win on Friday, led by two two-run home runs from Harrison Didawick. The Hoos secured the series on Sunday with a 20-5 run-rule win.

🔼  We Are The Champions. The Virginia women’s tennis team won the ACC regular-season title outright for the first time in program history, finishing 12-0 in conference play! They clinched the title with a 4-2 victory over NC State, securing the number one seed in the upcoming ACC Championships. This marks the first time the Cavaliers have achieved a perfect ACC season and the third time they’ve been co-champions.

🔼 Senior Day Success. The No. 8 Virginia women’s tennis team beat Wake Forest 4-0, extending its win streak to 12 matches and remaining unbeaten in ACC play. The Cavaliers dominated in doubles and secured the win with victories on courts two, six, and one. They celebrated Melodie Collard, Meggie Navarro, and Annabelle Xu before the match for Senior Day.

🔼 Upset Season. The No. 24 Virginia women’s lacrosse team defeated No. 10 Boston College 17-14. Fiona Allen led the Cavaliers with six goals, while Kate Galica contributed seven points and ten draw controls.

🔼 Great Eight. No. 7 Virginia rowing won eight of 11 races at the Ivy Invitational, defeating No. 9 Brown, No. 17 Harvard, and No. 11 Rutgers. The Cavaliers will return to Lake Carnegie for the Eisenberg Cup on April 18.

🔼 Came Up Short. No. 17 Virginia softball started the weekend with a 4-3 win over No. 11 Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Classic. Alex Call hit a three-run homer to vault into the lead. The Cavaliers went on to drop the final two games of the series.

🔼 Right On Track. The men’s and women’s track & field teams saw success at the Duke Invitational. Charlotta Sandkulla broke her own school record in the women’s hammer throw, good for seventh in the NCAA this season. Jeremiah Nubbe won the men’s hammer throw, while Janae Profit won the women’s discus competition.
