Hoos Brew 3/17: DMR National Champs!

Virginia track and field won the men's DMR at the NCAA Indoor Championships over the weekend!

🔼 History Made. Virginia men’s track and field posted its best finish ever at the NCAA Indoor Championships over the weekend, finishing in a tie for sixth with 23 points.

The biggest highlight of the weekend was the men’s distance medley relay team of Wes Porter, Alex Sherman, Conor Murphy and Gary Martin winning the first NCAA Indoor title in program history, breaking the meet and facility record in a time of 9:15.12.

Martin also finished second in the men’s 3,000m on Day 2, while Jeremiah Nubbe earned an All-American finish in the men’s weight throw.

🔼 Second Half Surge. No. 15 Virginia women’s lacrosse used a 10-goal third quarter to come from behind and win against No. 13 Duke on Saturday, 16-11, at Klöckner Stadium.

Abby Manalang scored a career-high four goals for the Hoos, and Jenna DiNardo collected a career-high eight points with four goals and four assists.

🔼 Three-For-Three. No. 25 Virginia softball picked up three more ACC wins over the weekend, sweeping Boston College in its conference home opener.

Each of the three games between the Hoos and Eagles were close, with just five runs separating the two teams between the three games.

🔼 West Coast Win. No. 23 Virginia baseball earned its first ACC series win of the season over the weekend out west, taking two-of-three games at Cal.

After splitting the first two games in Berkeley, the Hoos won 11-5 on Sunday to claim the series. Henry Godbout, Henry Ford and Walker Buchanan each hit home runs.

🔼 Terrapin Test. No. 18 Virginia men’s lacrosse fell at home to No. 1 Maryland on Saturday, 12-6.

After the Terrapins scored the first five goals of the game, the Hoos battled back to make it 7-6 early in the fourth quarter, but could not find the equalizer.

🔼 Double Dip. No. 8 Virginia men’s tennis got back in the win column this past weekend, picking up victories on the road at both Boston College and SMU.

The Hoos beat both the Demon Deacons and the Mustangs by a 4-1 final score.

Virginia Football Sets Date For Spring Football Game. The 2025 Virginia football Spring Game will be played on Saturday, April 12 at Scott Stadium. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Kickoff on ACC Network is slated for noon.
