🔼 Special Day At JPJ. Virginia men’s basketball picked up its fifth ACC victory of the season on Saturday, winning 75-61 against Georgia Tech on Tony Bennett Day.

🔼 Big Time Breakout. In Truitt Sunderland’s return from injury, which saw him miss the final seven games of the 2024 season, the Virginia attackman scored a career-high six goals and added three assists in the No. 5 Hoos’ 19-9 win over Colgate.

🔼 Hot Start. Five different Hoos scored in the first 12 minutes of No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse’s season-opening 20-5 win over Liberty on Friday — Jenna DiNardo, Kate Miller, Madison Alaimo, Abby Manalang and Jayden Piraino.

Addi Foster ended up leading the Hoos with six points against the Flames.

🔼 Shutout At JPJ. Virginia wrestling dominated Duke inside John Paul Jones Arena on Friday, winning all 10 weight classes, including six by bonus points in a 39-0 victory.

🔼 Fast Times. History was made on the track over the weekend by a number of Virginia runners, with the men’s 4×400m relay team setting a school record at the East Coast Invitational.

The headliner of the weekend was Gary Martin, who recorded the second-fastest time in collegiate history in the men’s mile at the Milrose Games in a time of 3:48.82.

🔼 Winning Weekend. Virginia softball opened its season with a winning weekend at the Gamecock Invitational, going 3-2 with victories over East Carolina, Toledo and Saint Francis in its final three games.

Sarah Coon, Mary Caroline Eaton and Kelly Ayer all had five hits over the course of the weekend to lead the Hoos.

🔼 Clashed Out. Virginia women’s basketball fell to Virginia Tech on Sunday in the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash, 87-62.

Kymora Johnson (16 points, five assists), Paris Clark (16 points, four assists) and Breona Hurd (12 points) scored in double figures for the Hoos.

🔼 Broken Records. Virginia swimming took down four pool records on Friday and Saturday at the Cavalier Invite — on Friday it was Gretchen Walsh in the 100 Breaststroke prelims (57.34) and Alex Walsh in the finals of the event (56.85), as well as Claire Curzan in the 200 Free (1:41.99).

On Saturday, Katie Grimes set the pool record in the 1,650 Free (15:53.40).

🔼 Movin’ On. No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis picked up a pair of wins over the weekend at the ITA Indoor Championships, advancing to Monday’s semifinal round against No. 1 Georgia.

The Hoos beat No. 13 Tennessee, 4-2, on Friday and No. 8 North Carolina on Saturday, 4-3.
