Hoos Brew 1/22: Down Go The 'Noles!

UVA women's hoops picked up a huge ranked road win yesterday.

What else is brewing in today's Brew?

🏀 Women get ranked win
🏀 Men get a breakthrough
⚔️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Ranked Road Win. In its fourth straight game against a ranked opponent, Virginia women’s basketball got in the win column on Sunday, taking down No. 15 Florida State, 91-87, on the road.

Kymora Johnson had a career day for the Hoos, pouring in 35 points on 14-of-20 shooting, while also grabbing seven rebounds and handing out six assists. Her 35 points are the sixth-most all-time in program history, and she’s just the second freshman to achieve the milestone.

🔼 Road Dub. A healthy amount of Cavalier fans were in Atlanta over the weekend for Virginia men’s basketball’s road game at Georgia Tech. It was certainly a road environment for the Hoos, though, which made their 75-66 win all the more satisfying.

🔼 Early Adversity. The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team lost its first match of the season on Sunday, a 4-3 decision against No. 5 South Carolina in Charlottesville.

The loss snapped a streak of 25 straight victories for the Hoos, dating back to Feb. 11, 2023.

🔼 Clean Sweeps. For the second time in its opening week of action, No. 12 Virginia women’s tennis swept a doubleheader on Saturday.

And once again, the Hoos did it with a pair of sweeps — 7-0 over Marshall and 7-0 over Longwood!

🔼 Record Breaker. It seems like every time a Virginia women’s swimmer gets into a pool, another record goes down — Gretchen Walsh set a new pool record over the weekend in the 100 free and turned in the fastest split in history for the 50 fly!

As a team, the No. 1 Virginia women defeated No. 8 NC State and No. 20 North Carolina, while the No. 18 Virginia men took down North Carolina but fell to No. 4 NC State.

🔼 Raising The Bar. Virginia track & field took home a pair of event victories on the final day of the Hokie Invitational on Saturday — Celia Rifaterra cleared 1.84 meters in the women’s high jump, winning the event and placing herself second on the all-time Virginia performance list, and Alex Sherman won the men’s 400 meters with a time of 48.53 seconds.
