Hoos Brew 12/6: ACC Opener

Virginia men's basketball tips off ACC action this weekend at SMU!

What else do we having brewing this morning?

🏈 Season of giving
🤼 Double the duals
⚔️ And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Generous Gift. Virginia Athletics, the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) and CavFutures announced yesterday a multi-million anonymous gift in support of the Virginia football program.

The anonymous gift marks the largest one-time cash contribution and the largest non-capital gift to Virginia Football in program history. This transformative support will elevate Virginia Football, equipping the coaching staff with the resources to attract, develop, and retain top talent to compete for championships.

🔼 ACC Action. Virginia men’s basketball gets ACC play started tomorrow, traveling to Dallas to take on ACC newcomer SMU at 2:15 p.m. on The CW.

The Mustangs are 7-2 so far this season and are winners of three straight heading into tomorrow’s matchup.

🔼 Pushing Through. Virginia men’s lacrosse players know that if they have routine matters to discuss with athletic trainer Rebecca Vozzo, they should contact her before 9 p.m.

When she saw an incoming call from goalie Matthew Nunes at 10:20 one night last fall, Vozzo braced herself. When she picked up, Nunes handed his phone to Tucker Mullen, who had been having chest pains. And thus began a medical odyssey for Mullen that included open-heart surgery in late November 2023.

🔼 Tiger Fight. Virginia women’s basketball fell to Auburn at home on Thursday, 66-57.

Kymora Johnson recorded her third consecutive 20-point game for the Hoos, and added 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Next up for Virginia is its ACC opener versus Boston College this Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena.

🔼 Double The Duals. Virginia wrestling will be on the mat twice this weekend, first hosting Penn today at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym before hitting the road to compete against VMI tomorrow at 1 p.m.

🔼 Runners, On Your Mark. Indoor season is here for Virginia track and field! The Hoos will be competing at a pair of meets this weekend to kick off the winter season — the Liberty Kickoff (Lynchburg) and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener (Boston).

🔼 Classroom Work. The Virginia football program was one of seven programs nationally to receive the 2024 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Academic Achievement Award. It marks the fifth time UVA has earned the honor, tied for the fourth most of any FBS school in the country.
