Hoos Brew 11/13: Final Four Bound

Virginia field hockey dominated its quarterfinal matchup with Maryland and will play in the Final Four.

What else is brewing in today's Brew?

🏀 Passed the test
👟 Still runnin’
⚔️ And much, much more!

🔼 A Day To Reflect. The University of Virginia will remember and reflect on the Nov. 13, 2022 shooting that killed student-athletes Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry with several events Monday.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 And Then There Were Four. Virginia field hockey scored one goal in the first period, one more in the second, one more in the third and one more in the fourth period to win 4-0 over No. 4 seed Maryland to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship!

The Hoos’ four goals were from four different goal scorers — Dani Mendez-Trendler, Madison Orsi, Minnie Pollock and Adele Iacobucci.

🔼 Test Passed. Virginia men’s basketball passed its first big test of the season over the weekend, beating Florida 73-70 in Charlotte, N.C.

Blake Buchanan scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench to propel the Hoos, who are now 2-0.

🔼 Tale Of Two Halfs. A six-point halftime deficit for Virginia women’s basketball against Campbell on Sunday turned into a 25-point win for the Hoos, thanks to some stellar second-half defense.

Five Hoos scored in double figures — Camryn Taylor, Kymora Johnson, London Clarkson, Jillian Brown and Alexia Smith.

🎥 HIGHLIGHT: The Showtime Cavaliers

🔼 Still Runnin’. Both the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams have qualified for the NCAA Championships next weekend at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville!

The women finished third at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships and the men finished fifth, but the NCAA Selection Committee gave at-large bids to both squads.

🔼 Lots Of Winners. It was quite the weekend for Virginia wrestling at the Mountaineer Invitational at App State, with four wrestlers claiming championships in the main draw and another two champs in the open division!

Marlon Yarbrough (133), Jack Gioffre (141), Justin McCoy (174) and Colden Dorman (197) all won their draw, while Evan Buchanan (133) and Griffin Gammell (184) won titles in the open division.

Brooklyn Borum and Abby Tadder were the stars of the show for the Hoos, both setting career-highs in kills with 21.
