What else do we have brewing this morning?

🏈 Another OT win
⚽️ Clash claimed
⚔️ And much, much more!

🔼 Extra Fun! No. 19 Virginia football improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in ACC play on Saturday with a 30-27 win in overtime at Louisville!

The Hoos’ five wins this season matches last season’s total, and the 3-0 start to conference play is the team’s best since 2007. At the same time, Virginia snapped a three-game losing streak to Louisville.

🔼 Wolfpack Win. No. 16 Virginia men’s soccer picked up one of the marquee wins of the season on Sunday, taking down No. 2 NC State on the road, 1-0.

Just 12 minutes later, the Cavaliers broke through. Off a short throw-in from Jesus De Vicente, Marco Dos Santos played the ball down the left wing back to De Vicente who looped a cross into a dangerous area in front of goal. Rising above a group of Wolfpack defenders, Nick Simmonds fired his header into the net to give the Cavaliers a first-half advantage.

🔼 Clash Claimed. No. 1 Virginia women’s soccer claimed the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash over Virginia Tech on Saturday, scoring a goal in each half in a 2-1 win over the Hokies!

Maggie Cagle and Lia Godfrey each found the net for the Hoos.

🔼 Down Goes Duke. No. 2 Virginia field hockey picked up a top-10 win on Friday, netting a goal in the second overtime period against No. 9 Duke to beat the Blue Devils, 1-0.

Emma Watchilla scored the unassisted game-winner for the Hoos.

🔼 Split A Pair. Virginia volleyball hosted a pair of ACC opponents this past weekend, falling in three sets to Boston College on Friday before bouncing back for a five-set win over Syracuse on Sunday.

In the win against the Orange, Reagan Ennist racked up a Virginia freshman record 32 kills. The 32 kills are the most by a Cavalier since Deanna Zwarich had 33 kills against Wake Forest in 2000. Ennist’s 32 kills came on 89 swings, which is a program record for attempts.

🔼 No Longer Sad! Within moments of the chaos rapidly unfolding at Scott Stadium last Friday night, Mike Bunting was experiencing his own kind of pleasant disruption some 1,400 miles away near his home in Austin, Texas.

His “Hoo Crew” group chat, a collection of mainly 2010-era University of Virginia graduates, was blowing up with excitement stemming from the UVA football team’s dramatic upset of eighth-ranked Florida State University.

Amid the texted shouts of “Wahoowa!” and “Go Hoos!” came an image of Bunting that made him internet-famous on Sept. 12, 2015, near the end of UVA’s heartbreaking loss to the University of Notre Dame. But instead of showing Bunting slumped over the front row of section 105 of Scott Stadium – the ESPN screenshot that spawned the “Sad Virginia Fan” meme – Stephanie Soh had Bunting upside-down to make it appear his hands were raised in celebration.

🔼 Tennis Thorns. Members of the Virginia women’s tennis team competed as individuals at the Martha Thorn Invitational over the weekend, with a Cavalier winning each of the three singles brackets.
