📈 STOCK UP

🔼 An Emotional End. In the same room at John Paul Jones Arena where he was introduced at the University of Virginia in April 2009, Tony Bennett took a final bow as the Cavaliers’ head men’s basketball coach Friday morning.

🔼 Walsh Wows. With the records that fell, you would have thought there was an Olympic final at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville on Friday — Virginia swimmer Gretchen Walsh broke American records in the 50m backstroke (25.37), 100m backstroke (54.89), 50m Free (23.10) and a world record in a time trial for the 100m Individual Medley (55.98).

🔼 Double The Ws. No. 4 Virginia field hockey put together a 2-0 weekend, winning 3-2 in a shootout over No. 12 Syracuse on Friday and finding just enough offense in a 1-0 win over Miami (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon.

Mia Abello scored the game-winner against the Orange, and did it again two days later against the RedHawks, her fourth and fifth goals of the season.

🔼 Squeezed The Orange. Make that five wins in a row for Virginia men’s soccer, which is peaking at the right time after a 3-0 win over Syracuse on Saturday night.

Victor Akoum and Joaquin Brizuela both scored the first goals of their UVA careers, and Nick Dang contributed his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Hoos play their final ACC regular season match this Friday at Pitt before closing out the schedule with Mary Washington at home on Oct. 30.

🔼 Panoramic View. Virginia women’s and men’s cross country performed well on their home course over the weekend, with a pair of individual victories highlighting the day.

Jenny Schilling took the title in the women’s 6K and led the Hoos to a team victory as well, while Gary Martin won the men’s 8K race to lead the men to a runner-up finish.

🔼 Another W. Virginia volleyball pushed its record to 15-4 over the weekend, splitting a pair of matches at home against Duke and North Carolina.

Elayna Duprey and Kate Dean led the Hoos to a sweep of Duke on Friday with 10 kills each. The win was their fifth in ACC play, the most for the program since 2019.

Virginia fell in five sets to the Tar Heels on Sunday, despite 12 kills apiece from Brooklyn Borum and Abby Tadder.

🔼 Tiger Fight. Virginia football hung tough in the first half on Saturday as it looked to upset No. 10 Clemson on the road, but a lop-sided third quarter shifted momentum toward the Tigers, who eventually won 48-31 in head coach Tony Elliott’s return to Death Valley.

🔼 Wrapped Up. Virginia men’s golf was led by Josh Duangmanee and Bryan Lee at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, with the pair finishing in a tie for second and leading the Hoos to a third-place finish.

The Virginia women were in California this past weekend and finished fourth at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Jaclyn LaHa led the way at 4-under, good for 10th place.
