📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Movin’ On Up. What a week it has been for the Gelof Brothers! Earlier this week, Jake Gelof was drafted 60th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers. And now his older brother Zack Gelof received some good news—he’s moving up to The Show. The Oakland Athletics called him up to join the club for the weekend series against the Minnesota Twins.
🔼 In Focus. Two-sport athlete Jay Woolfolk has announced to change his focus to baseball only. Since 2021, he has played baseball and football at Virginia. During his time at quarterback, he became the first true freshman to start in his position at UVA since 1977. He recorded 245 passing yards and 104 rushing.
He led the pitching staff in relief appearances on the mound the last two seasons, holding a 2.89 ERA with 93 strikeouts. He’s playing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer with UVA teammate Griff O’Ferrall.
🔼 In Stock. The first wave of 2023 transfers—a group that included offensive lineman Ugonna Nnanna (Houston), cornerback Tayvonn Kyle (Iowa State), quarterback Tony Muskett (Monmouth), tailback Kobe Pace (Clemson) and wide receiver Malik Washington (Northwestern)—joined the UVA football team in January.
A second wave arrived on Grounds late in the spring. This group consists of offensive linemen Jimmy Christ (Penn State) and Brian Stevens (Dayton) and cornerbacks Malcolm Greene (Clemson) and Sam Westfall (SMU), and the newcomers fielded questions this week in the George Welsh Indoor Practice Field after a team meeting.
🔼 Night At The Ballpark. Wednesday night was UVA Night with the Charlottesville Tom Sox and there were some very special guests in attendance. Virginia quarterback Tony Muskett traded football for baseball and threw the first pitch. Safety Langston Long showed that he’s more than a football player by singing the National Anthem.
